Miission/Outreach

A message from Fred A., Mission/Outreach Chair:

Hey All,

Wanted to Thank each and every one of you for all of your help throughout the Senior Expo this past Thursday (3/27/25) at the Indian River County Fairgrounds!

Our Outreach Committee could not be more proud of the efforts made to help all of the attendees to, “Know Christ, as we efforted to Make Christ Known,” and to help everyone we could to also know a little bit more about First Presbyterian Church of Sebastian!  Pardon me if I did not have everyone’s email address in my phone! Also, a Special Thank You to Joy Carey for donating the Excellent Photograph for our FREE DRAWING that served to help draw in a wide variety of folks who would not have stopped at our Booth otherwise!!

And, a SHOUT OUT to our Secretary, Cathy, who made a huge effort to make sure we had everything we needed including extra brochures and Welcome Bags!  And, to Pastor Jeff and Susan Mann for their contributions as well!  And, Margery for her help with publicity for the event & recruiting  volunteers!!
It takes a T.E.A.M. because Together Everyone Accomplishes More!

I truly appreciated all of your efforts and have a special additional Thank You to everyone who stayed on for the 2nd shift after being there for a large part of the 1st shift as well when others who had signed up for the 2nd shift could not make it!  You all SAVED THE DAY, and hopefully that will lead to new friends we sought being SAVED THEMSELVES!!  Thank You all again for your efforts in helping our Outreach Committee REACH OUT to all of the attendees that we could!

Kind Regards,
Fred

ANOTHER THANK YOU FROM E. FRED AUGENSTEIN:

To say we had a very successful 2nd Annual Antique Car, Truck, and Bike Show would truly be an understatement!  Our first show fielded 42 vehicles in 2024!  Today we hosted over 100 Cars, Trucks & Bikes!  Praise Our Good Lord for such a wonderful turnout and for everyone who came out to enjoy the wonderful vehicles, the great food, the memorable music, our Trove of Blessings Mural Painted Thrift Shop, and to become a little more familiar with the inside and outside of our church.  Our entire congregation thanks everyone from the bottom of our hearts.

May God Bless each and every one of you!

Our 2024 Blessing of The Pets Event was so much fun for everyone and every pet!

THANK YOU to our fantastic team of volunteers at the Senior Expo 2024 in Vero Beach!

MISSION TRIP UPDATE FROM CRIS GILLESPIE:

It was a great week in Chiquimula, Guatemala (I’m writing this on my return flight- June 24)!  We delivered bags of food and toys to 46 families in five villages.  Although many of the families we visited were unchurched, we were well received.  One of the benefits of praying with each family was that seven individuals committed their lives to Christ.  This wouldn’t have been possible without the gifts and prayers from First Presbyterian.  Gracias and thank you!  Let this be the beginning of something great at our church.  My hope is that others will consider going with me next year, whether it be Guatemala, Cuba or Peru.

PATH (Presbyterian's Answer to Hunger) is a partnership program of Christian faith and compassion demonstrated through prayers, understanding, and gifts.

PATH 5 Cents a Meal Program:  Formed in 1982 by Rev. John Jackson in a small first step to battle hunger and poverty.  Congregations invite every member of all ages to contribute a few cents at every meal.  This simple act is an expression of thanks for what we have received and a commitment to share with others. Partners have been local, national, and throughout the world. The first national partner was the Haitian Gardens of Miami,  and the first international partner was the Chipembi Farm College in Zambia, Africa,

PATH Partners include:

AIR (Alliance for International Reforestation, Inc.):  a nonprofit organization working to make a difference for the people of Guatemala and Nicaragua.  AIR plants trees, establishes tree nurseries, provides environmental education for teachers and farmers, digs wells, builds fuel efficient brick ovens, an d helps educate everyone about the environmental challenges facing Central America.  Website:  airguatemala.org

Dr. Daniel Turk (Elizabeth)-Madagascar (PC(USA) Mission Workers): This project trains Seminary students to plant and grow fruit trees and vegetables as a valuable tool for when they graduate and pastor churches in rural areas of Madagscar, whre food is not seen as a hobby or past time, but as an important means of survival and self sustenance.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida
is a private, non-profit organization that collects and distributes donated food to more than 550 non-profit partner agencies in six Central Florida counties.  Website:  foodbankcentralflorida.org

Society of Saint Andrew (SoSA)
is a private national non-profit that partners with local farmers and coordinates thousands of volunteers to enter the fields and groves and even back yards of private home owners to glean fresh fruits and vegetables to distribute to food banks, pantries, and shelters.  Website:  endhunger.org
