Sunday, September 20 Service of Worship
The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
#539 v. 4 When My Faith Looks Up to Thee When ends life’s passing dream, When death’s cold, threatening stream Shall o’er me roll, Blest Savior, then, in love, Fear and Distrust remove; O lift me safe above, A ransomed soul!
Prayer of Confession O God, though you have forgiven us through Jesus Christ, we continue to be tripped up by our corrupt desires, our faithless hearts, and our rebellious spirits. How you must watch us and want us to gain wisdom and faith and character. We know that you won’t ever give up on us and that you have promised to keep working in us until we know fully the freedom you purchased for us. Thank you for your love and power and we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (silence)
Sermon: “What You Need to Know About Forgiveness”
Scripture: Matthew 18: 21-35
#638 v. 3, 4 I Need Thee Every Hour I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain; Come quickly and abide, Or life is vain. I need Thee, O I need Thee; Every hour I need Thee! O bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee.
I need Thee every hour, Most Holy One; O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son! I need Thee, O I need Thee; Every hour I need Thee! O bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee.
Shalom Shalom to you now, shalom, my friends. May God’s full mercies bless you, my friends. In all your living and through your loving Christ be your shalom, Christ be your shalom.
