Church at Prayer GRANDCHILDREN September 1, 2015
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged.” (Proverbs 17:6) We just spent time with all of our grandchildren and had more fun than we should have been allowed to have! I love the idea from the Book of Proverbs that grandchildren are a crown, although I am not so sure about the “of the aged” part. Some translations have it “of old men” which doesn’t help. Older, sure, aged, no way. Although my granddaughter did ask me if I had used up all my hair! There is some kind of a wonderful, indefinable, mystical connection between grandchildren and grandparents. My grandparents have been with our Lord a long time but they remain infinitely dear to me as do each of our unique grandchildren. The generations have much to offer each other. Perhaps few responsibilities are greater for we who are working on “aged” than Psalm 145:4 - "One generation shall laud (praise, commend) your works to another.” Are you imparting your love and your love for God and your following of Jesus to your grandchildren and to your children? And to the children and grandchildren of others? They will love you for it! Joy to You – E. Stanley Ott, August 11, 2015 Vol. 14, No. 21, GRANDCHILDREN PRAYER SUGGESTIONS For many of us, our grandchildren have grown or are almost grown. We are working on great-grandchildren! None the less, we love the little ones and love and worry about the older kids. There are so many choices out there: as in: “lead us not into temptation”. Pass that along to them. Each generation poses new challenges. We who are working on “aged” need to look around us, perhaps get to know a young person in the neighborhood or volunteer at a school. There is so much wisdom we can impart. Telling them how your faith got you through some tough times is just one way. Pray for guidance. Pray for our students and teachers as they begin a new school year. Guide them Heavenly Father, so that this school year is productive and safe. May that “elusive light bulb” come on for the struggling student and that those extra-special teachers bring real enthusiasm for learning to his/her students. Amen. Pray for the safety and success of the firefighters battling the blazes in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and California. Pray for the families who have lost their home and possessions and pray that their faith will grow stronger to get them through these tough times. Pray that those who don’t know God will turn to Him at this time of distress. Remember to pray for those on our prayer list with chronic health issues, sick, surgery, depression and those who have lost loved ones. May they find healing and peace.
